The meetings of the above occur on average every eight weeks and with an ever dwindling committee we struggle to ensure attendance at teach and every meeting but attempt to ensure that our views are not only known but we do attend those considered to be most relevant. In addition, work on many of these fronts tends to be ever increasing. Examples are obviously local residential planning matters but  also the proposed redevelopments of Coulsdon town centre  and similar in Purley involving the Tesco store. It is important that we are there to represent your views rather than just let these happen by which stage it is too late to take any action. So many proposals are put forward by large corporate developers often with scant regards for the local population and it is our role along with other bodies listed above to ensure that if necessary there is suitable opposition.

We hope you find this brief description to be of interest and we finish with a plea for more assistance to help us cover the above areas as fully as we can. If you are prepared to assist us please contact the HADRA Secretary on email secretary@hadra.org.uk.

NOTES OF KENLEY SNT POLICE MEETING
HELD ON 8TH DECEMBER 2010

Roger Capham has stood down from being Chair (after 4 years) and Phil Royce has taken over. He is the police liaison rep. for Kendra.

Incidentally, he says Kendra have one third of their residents as members of Kendra and by and large only issue their newsletters to members who have paid their subs. They may give one for instance to new residents whilst they decide whether to join.

A dog control order will be brought in January 2011 throughout Croydon, concerning all open spaces incl. City of London areas. Not more than 4 dogs can be walked by one person and a badly behaved dog may be required to be put on a lead.

In terms of crimes, motor vehicle crime is down (maybe the dark nights and cold weather help here), burglary is static, (three to four incidents per month in the ward), but no trends although there is the borough burglary squad and Rory, a new PC looks at all incidents. There have been no dog incidents. The children’s home in OLL has closed as these residents did cause problems.

The new key tasks will be:

1.      Reduce motor vehicle crime ( to continue)

2.      Reduce speeding along Hayes Lane etc.

3.      Reduce fly tipping in OLL at top end

The SNT is spending a lot of time on watching the fly tipping in OLL

As regards Roadwatch, Kendra discussed at their recent committee meeting on 7th Dec whether KENDRA should officially support this exercise. There was a lot of dissent amongst the committee with a vote being taken!! A recent police public meeting at the OLL Baptist Church attracted only 15 members of the public. 5 new volunteers were forthcoming from this meeting making the total currently 12, aiming for 20 to work on Roadwatch. The Dec. 1st public meeting was called off due to the snow.

The new equipment which records reg. nos. and speeds etc on to a computer has not been approved to enable it to be used for prosecutions and the manufacturers are apparently not interested in applying for approval The old equipment has been approved. Prosecution can only be done if there is a PC with the volunteers. PCSOs can be substituted but only if a speed of 46mph+ is being achieved in a 30 mph zone.

The fly tipping issue continues but it is not a notifiable offence for the police and the council leads on this always.

Next meeting dates are 9th March, 8th June (HADRA AGM), 7th September and 7th December 2011.
