There is growing opposition amongst resident in the
Kenley area to the Proposed Development at No. 94 Higher Drive.
Although the location of the development is not in our area, we consider
it close enough to be considered by our
residents.

Coulsdon Manor Hotel Proposed Alterations
The Coulsdon Manor Hotel
are proposing alterations to the existing leisure facilities and 26 new
bedrooms. The development if accepted would proceed on the elevation
facing the car-park. The proposals include a swimming pool, treatment
rooms, fitness rooms and additional facilities for the golfers.
The existing leisure
facility would be demolished and landscaped. The area around the
existing leisure facility would be landscaped ,including the tennis
courts.
It is proposed to have
discussions with existing users and residents groups to advise them of
the plans. Once these discussions are complete a decision will be made
on whether to proceed.
The plans will be on
display on the 21st April 2011 and a meeting will be held on
evening of the 21st April 2011.

Croydon
Council have now refused each of the four planning applications which
relate to the building of additional dwellings in the rear garden of 76
Higher Drive. In their letter, they have clearly indicated that such
developments are not in line with other local dwellings and, having
received 15 ejections against one of the applications, we are sure this
decision will be met favourably with the local community.
We are not aware of any new planning applications being made in the
HADRA area this month and one application of last month relating to the
formation of vehicle access at 47 Stoats Nest Road (Application Number
10/02525/P) has since been withdrawn.
HADRA
provides analysis on recent Planning Applications
HADRA
has recently completed an analysis of the planning applications made in
our area since 2002, the results of which make interesting reading.
Applications peaked in 2003 with 54
applications being made in the HADRA area which dropped down to
27 in 2009. This year so far, we have had 20 applications, 11 of which
were approved, 1 refused and 8 pending.
Since 2006, Croydon Council’s refusal
for planning applications has decreased from 30% to 8% this year, so if
somebody submits a planning application, there’s currently an average
92% likelihood that it will be approved which means we have to be
ever-more vigilant.
HADRA
launches email updates!
Never be left in the dark about
planning applications in the HADRA area! We’re pleased to
announce that we are about to start emailing weekly updates of
information relevant to the HADRA area and one of the main pieces
we shall be including will be updates on planning applications in the
HADRA area. You can register to receive these by clicking on the
following link:

(see links at the bottom of every email update) and HADRA will

Government
“Garden Grabbing” Announcement
HADRA
recently welcomed the new government’s announcement that local
authorities are to be given more power to refuse unwanted
developments in the light of new government plans to clamp down on
‘garden-grabbing’.
The new classification, set to be
enforced immediately, will not only make it more difficult for
developers to target gardens, but will also give planning committees
more power to stop unwanted developments and take into account
neighbours’ concerns and objections.
HADRA
support the view that local communities are best placed to make
decisions about where new development should go and any development
should not be to the detriment of the local area.

Of specific interest to HADRA
residents will be the following planning applications:
76 Higher Drive, Purley, CR8 2HG
There are currently two planning
applications outstanding for this development, both of which relate to
the building of additional dwellings in the rear garden and providing
access through Bencombe Road.
The first application
is for the “Erection of one detached two storey seven bedroom house at
rear with accommodation in roofspace; formation of vehicular accesses
onto Bencombe Road and provision of associated parking”.
Croydon Council objected to this
development, however the developer has since appealed against this
decision and it is currently being reviewed by the national Planning
Inspectorate in Bristol.
The Second application
at the same address is for the
“Erection of 2 two storey five bedroom detached houses at rear with
accommodation in roofspace; formation of vehicular accesses onto
Bencombe Road and provision of associated parking”.
Croydon Council are currently
reviewing this application. If you are a local resident and have an
interest in this application, either supporting it, or not, we’d like to
hear your comments. You can contact the HADRA Planning Officer
